Latin Name : Amyris Balsamifera.
Part of Plant Used : Wood & Branches.
Source : Jamaica.
Extraction Method : Steam Distillation.
Amyris essential oil, often called West Indian Sandalwood oil, has a fragrance that closely resembles true sandalwood and is obtained through steam distillation of the bark and branches of the Amyris balsamifera tree. The wood’s high oil content allows it to burn like a candle, giving rise to the local name “candle wood.” Valued as a more affordable alternative to genuine sandalwood, it offers similar warm, woody aromatic qualities and is widely used for creating a grounding, tranquil atmosphere. The botanical distinction between Amyris and true sandalwood was only clarified in 1886 through microscopic examination of the leaves, and the tree grows wild in Haiti, where it has long been appreciated for its aromatic significance.
