Frankincense Essential Oil is steam distilled from the resin of the Boswellia carterii tree of the Burseraceae family and is also known as Olibanum, a name derived from the French franc meaning luxuriant; along with myrrh, it was among the earliest gums used as incense. Indigenous to the arid regions of the Middle East, the tree is often described as growing in a natural bonsai-like form, and frankincense has long symbolized divinity and sacredness.
