Professional Use
Hyssop is a specialist oil for the experienced practitioner. Its high pinocamphone content demands careful client screening and conservative dilutions, but used correctly it brings a genuinely distinctive herbal clarity to respiratory, purifying, and focus-oriented treatment room work.
- Client screening: Before using Hyssop in any treatment, confirm the client is not pregnant, breastfeeding, epileptic, or hypertensive. This is non-negotiable given the pinocamphone content.
- Massage blends: Maximum 0.3% in leave-on formulations. At this level, Hyssop adds a sharp, clarifying herbal note to respiratory or grounding blends without presenting a safety risk. Combine with Lavender and Frankincense for a structured, calming blend.
- Diffusion in treatment rooms: 1–2 drops blended with Eucalyptus and Pine Sylvestris creates a sharp, opening respiratory atmosphere. Avoid prolonged diffusion and ensure good ventilation. Do not diffuse around pregnant clients or those with epilepsy.
- Inhalation protocols: 1 drop on a tissue for short-duration direct inhalation in respiratory or clarity-focused sessions. Brief exposure only.
- Blending ratios: As a dominant top-to-mid note, Hyssop typically works at 10–15% of a blend by drop count. A little goes a long way — overuse will overwhelm other components and increase safety risk.
- Natural perfumery: Adds sharp, medicinal-herbal complexity to herbal-resinous accords. Works well with Clary Sage, Cedarwood Virginian, and Frankincense at low percentages.
Safety note: Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Avoid with epilepsy or seizure disorders. Not for use with children under 12. Use with caution if hypertensive. Not for internal use. Always dilute before skin application.
