Botanical name: Eucalyptus globulus | Plant part: Leaves & twigs | Origin: China | Extraction: Steam distillation
Eucalyptus globulus is the benchmark eucalyptus in professional aromatherapy — the most widely used species, and the one most associated with the oil's characteristic sharp, camphorous, intensely fresh aroma. Steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of mature trees, it is exceptionally high in 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), the primary active compound responsible for its powerful decongestant and antimicrobial action.
In the treatment room, Eucalyptus is the go-to oil for respiratory support — effective in steam inhalations, chest rubs, and diffusion blends for colds, sinusitis, and congestion. Its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties also make it a reliable addition to muscular massage blends for pain and stiffness, and its strong antimicrobial profile makes it useful in room sprays and sickroom diffusion. Supplied in a professional 50ml bottle, it is ideal for clinic use and high-volume formulation.
- Aroma profile: Sharp, camphorous, and intensely fresh with clean, medicinal, and slightly woody undertones
- Blends well with: Peppermint, Lavender, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Lemon, Cedarwood, Frankincense
- Common applications: Respiratory and decongestant blends, steam inhalation, muscular massage, antimicrobial diffusion, sickroom support
- Dilution: Always dilute before topical application — 1–2% in a suitable carrier oil. Avoid with young children and during pregnancy.
