Latin Name: Cymbopogon Nardus | Plant Part: Dried Grass | Source: Java | Extraction: Steam Distillation
Fresh, bright, and unmistakably citrus-green, Citronella Essential Oil is one of the most recognisable and widely used oils in professional aromatherapy and natural product formulation. Steam-distilled from the dried grass of Cymbopogon nardus in Java, Indonesia — one of the world’s leading citronella-producing regions — this oil delivers a clean, sharp, lemon-fresh aroma with warm, slightly woody and grassy undertones.
Best known as a natural plant-based insect repellent, citronella has been registered for this use in the USA since 1948 and has been used by ancient cultures across India, Egypt, and Southeast Asia for centuries to repel mosquitoes and insects — a use that was, in those times, quite literally a matter of life and death.
- Fresh, sharp lemon-green aroma with warm grassy undertones — bright, clean, and uplifting
- Widely used in natural insect repellent formulations, outdoor candles, and freshening diffuser blends
- Excellent in deodorant and oily skin formulations; a natural, plant-based bio-pesticide
- Pairs beautifully with lavender, lemongrass, eucalyptus, cedarwood, and citrus oils
- Professional 50ml size — ideal for treatment rooms and specialist blending
