Latin Name: Illicium Verum | Plant Part: Fruit | Source: China | Extraction: Steam Distillation
Please note: This is Star Anise (Illicium verum) essential oil — steam-distilled from the star-shaped fruit of the Chinese star anise tree. It is botanically distinct from common aniseed (Pimpinella anisum), though both share a characteristic sweet, liquorice-like aroma due to their high anethole content.
Sweet, warm, and richly liquorice-like, Star Anise Essential Oil is a bold and distinctive oil with deep roots in Chinese culinary and aromatic tradition. Steam-distilled from the beautiful star-shaped fruit of Illicium verum grown in China — the world’s primary producer — this oil delivers a sweet, intensely anisic aroma with warm, spicy and slightly woody undertones. Characterful, warming, and unmistakably exotic.
Star anise has been used in Chinese cuisine and traditional practice for thousands of years, and is one of the key components of Chinese five-spice. Its essential oil is also a primary natural source of anethole, widely used in the flavour and fragrance industries.
