Petitgrain essential oil is one of aromatherapy's most elegant and underappreciated oils. Steam-distilled from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium var. amara), it delivers a fresh, green, woody-floral aroma that is simultaneously uplifting and deeply calming. Sharing its botanical source with both neroli (from the blossoms) and bitter orange (from the fruit peel), petitgrain occupies a unique aromatic space — greener and more herbaceous than neroli, brighter and more refined than many citrus oils.

How to Use

• Diffusion: 3–5 drops in your diffuser; use alone or blend with citrus and woody oils for added depth
• Topical: Dilute to 1% for facial use (1 drop per 5 ml carrier oil); up to 2% for body use
• Skin care: Add 1–2 drops to your moisturiser, toner, or facial oil for a clarifying, sebum-balancing effect
• Bath: Blend 4–5 drops with a dispersant before adding to warm bathwater
• Body spray: 8–10 drops in 100 ml distilled water for a fresh, natural body mist
• Pillow mist: Blend with lavender and cedarwood for a calming bedtime spray

Blending Partners

Petitgrain bridges citrus top notes and deeper floral or resinous base notes with ease. It pairs especially well with bergamot FCF, lavender, clary sage, frankincense, cedarwood, ylang ylang, geranium, and rosemary.

• Not phototoxic — safe for use before sun exposure when properly diluted
