Pure Frankincense Essential Oil is steam distilled from the resin of the Boswellia carterii tree of the Burseraceae family and is also known as Olibanum, a name derived from the French franc meaning luxuriant; together with myrrh, it was among the earliest gums used as incense. Indigenous to the dry regions of the Middle East, the tree is often described as growing in a natural bonsai-like form, and frankincense has long been associated with divinity and sacred rituals. Prized for its rich, resinous aroma, the oil is widely used in aromatherapy, meditation practices, and cosmetic products, particularly for fragrance and skin-toning applications. In Ancient Egypt, frankincense was burned as holy incense and incorporated into beauty traditions, including being ground into kohl to accentuate the eyes, a practice frequently depicted in Egyptian art, with documented use dating back to a 15th-century BC tomb inscription of Queen Hatshepsut.
