Latin Name: Thymus mastichina  |  Plant Part: Flowering Tops & Leaves  |  Source: Spain  |  Extraction: Steam Distillation

Marjoram Spanish Essential Oil is a warm, herbaceous oil with a fascinating botanical story. Despite its name, Spanish Marjoram is not true marjoram at all — it is steam distilled from Thymus mastichina, a wild thyme native to the Iberian Peninsula. This gives it a unique aromatic character: clean, invigorating, and gently camphoraceous, sitting somewhere between thyme and eucalyptus with a comforting, homely warmth.

Prized in aromatherapy for its versatility, Spanish Marjoram is a go-to oil for respiratory support, muscle comfort, and creating a calm, settled evening atmosphere. Its high 1,8-cineole content makes it particularly effective when diffused during the winter months, while its warm, herbaceous depth makes it a natural companion for woody and citrus blends.

Aromatherapy Uses

  • Diffuse 2–3 drops for a warm, herbaceous evening ambience that promotes relaxation and clear breathing
  • Blend with Lemon or Orange for a fresh, uplifting combination
  • Pair with Cedarwood or Frankincense for cosy, grounding depth
  • Dilute in a carrier oil and massage into tired or overworked muscles
  • Use in steam inhalation to support the respiratory system

How to Use

  • Diffusion: Add 2–3 drops to your diffuser alone or in a blend
  • Massage oil: Dilute at 1–2% in a carrier oil (approx. 5–10 drops per 30ml)
  • Steam inhalation: Add 2–3 drops to a bowl of hot water and inhale gently
  • Bath: Add 3–4 drops to a tablespoon of carrier oil before adding to a warm bath

Safety

For external use only. Always dilute before applying to skin and patch test first. Avoid contact with eyes and sensitive areas. Keep out of reach of children and pets. If pregnant, nursing, or under medical care, consult a healthcare professional before use. Store tightly capped, away from heat and direct light.
